The wireless industry believes that safety should always be the top priority, whether you’re driving a vehicle or are a passenger. That’s why for more than 12 years, we’ve been educating consumers of all ages about the dangers of distracted driving. CTIA and the wireless industry believe consumers can best determine what laws that they would or would not support.
Just as many states have graduated drivers' laws, such as restricting the number of passengers or nighttime hours of driving, the industry believes restricting a young driver's use of wireless while becoming better-skilled at the primary driving tasks makes sense. The industry also believes manual texting and e-mailing while driving should be against the law.
To assist with educating young drivers and their parents about the dangers of distracted driving and in particular, the very real risks of texting while behind-the-wheel, we launched the teen-focused "On the Road, Off the Phone" campaign with the National Safety Council. As part of the campaign, a television public service announcement and website were developed to remind teens and novice drivers that when they’re "On the Road, Off the Phone."
