CTIA and the wireless industry recognize its responsibility to our environment for the health of the planet and future generations.
That’s why our members are expanding our own practices and providing innovative solutions and applications for other industries. For example, the industry is developing environmentally friendly products and services, implementing energy-conscious measures in its network operations and business practices and educating consumers about end-of-life and recycling device and accessory programs.
While we’re doing our part to reduce our carbon footprint, anyone who has a mobile device or accessories can make a huge difference by recycling them through programs offered by carriers and handset manufacturers. Every major carrier offers consumers the opportunity to drop-off wireless devices and accessories at commercial stores, where they’ll be appropriately handled.
Before you do, make sure your personal information is erased from your device. Many carriers and handset manufacturers post free instructions on their websites, or you can also visit Wireless Recycling to have the simple step-by-step device-specific directions e-mailed to you.
In addition to the independent and ongoing recycling efforts by CTIA member carriers and suppliers, the industry voluntarily developed a nationwide recycling campaign called “Wireless…The New Recyclable” in 2003. The centerpiece of this public outreach and awareness campaign is an in-store phone take-back program that allows consumers to bring their used wireless devices and accessories to carrier retail outlets for recycling.
The Wireless Foundation supports CALL TO PROTECT®, a national philanthropic program focused on combating domestic violence.
